2006 Student Show

2006 Design in the Fast Lane Student Show Entry Requirements

What we’re aiming for
This year’s Design in the Fast Lance student show is focusing on the design process and its outcomes. With that perspective in mind, the show has set two goals for itself:
Make evident the conceptual and visual thread that runs from a project’s inception through its interim working stages to its final solutions.

How the show will be judged
Entries from each school, university or department will be judged as a single group. Each group will be evaluated on how well its students worked through the iterative design process and their ability to effectively solve a particular client or group of clients’ problems.

Entry requirements (Please read carefully)

  1. Educators will select one class project. It can be from any design or advertising class and its solutions may involve any static, kinetic medium or 3-D media. (Note: kinetic solutions must be visualized in static form, 3-D projects in 2-D).
  2. Projects should be recent—no more than 1 year old.
  3. Within the scope of the project, single or multiple clients are acceptable.
  4. Each institution may enter no fewer than (5) five and no more than seven (7) individual student solutions for their class projects.
  5. Each student solution may have multiple final components. However, all final components must fit on no more than two (2) 15x20” black Letramax boards.
  6. In addition to the student work, educators will need to include the following contextualizing materials:
    1. A one page project overview and a one-page project summary. The project overview should set the stage for the judges. The project summary should describe how well the students solved their assigned client problem(s). The overview and summary should be mounted on a single
      black, Letramax board.
    2. A 15-50 word client brief for each student’s client. Briefs should be
submitted as a separate set of documents and a copy should also attached to the back of one board of the students’ respective work. All briefs must have their corresponding student names on them.
    3. Samples of each student’s interim working ideations, thumbnails, roughs, visual explorations, etc. These samples may be in any form but must fit on
no more than two (2) 15x20” black Letramax boards.
  7. Boards may be oriented horizontally or vertically but every institution must choose one orientation for all of their entries.
  8. In addition to the client briefs, the following information should be attached to the back of each entry board:
    School or Department Name
    Instructor’s Name
    Student’s Name
    Client or Assignment Name

Award for the winning school is a scholarship to the school in the amount of $1000. The second place school will receive a $500 scholarship.
